It’s a busy Thursday. I’m writing this between listening to an article (while at the gym during a leg day workout…) about the proposed 2 CFR changes relating to federal grants and rushing off to a band rehearsal. I head back on the road soon, this time for a several-day stretch of six shows. If you’re new to knowing me, I’m an upright bassist in addition to serving as CEO & Founder of Antonius Strategies. And I feel like I’m always on the road these days…whether traveling for Antonius Strategies, music, personal life, or navigating a dual-city life between Nashville and DC.

So what am I doing launching my newsletter for Antonius Strategies today? Well, I’ve been meaning to start this for a while, and next week is a big week for federal grants. Monday, July 13 is the last day to submit comments on the proposed changes to 2 CFR. We’ll have a lot to discuss in the coming weeks on the topic of those proposed changes, especially as they relate to cybersecurity requirements for grant funding agencies, as well as recipient and subrecipient entities.

Thus, here is the official launch “article” of The Braid, a newsletter from Antonius Strategies CEO & Founder, yours truly. I need to get this launch article out there so I can get into the more nitty gritty articles starting next week. On Tuesday, July 14, I’ll publish an article discussing the current cybersecurity-related elements of the 2 CFR and how the proposed changes would affect those elements. I look forward to having you read that article. For now, let’s do a quick intro…

If you’re new here…

About Antonius Strategies

Antonius Strategies launched in January 2026 with the mission of connecting the human and technical elements of security, resilience, and compliance. We’re an operational risk advisory firm for a digital age, braiding together cyber and information security, regulatory and grants landscapes, and organizational strategy. We help entities that must maintain and demonstrate strong cyber and information security secure funding, protect assets, and avoid regulatory penalties by elevating security posture, resilience, and compliance.

We specialize in serving entities involved in the federal grants space, as we have unique expertise in translating ever-changing cybersecurity regulatory requirements and best practices into actionable cybersecurity operations practices. A lot of our upcoming newsletters will revolve around this and related topics.

Why The Braid?

I named my newsletter for Antonius Strategies The Braid because “braid” is a term that repeatedly appears in how we talk about our work here at Antonius Strategies. It’s a major element of our philosophy. We recognize that cyber and information security is not a stand-alone concept that only IT departments think about. It is a whole of enterprise – and might I say – whole of society concept that touches human nature, geopolitics, national security, policy, technology, and much, much more.

A few of our “braids” at Antonius Strategies…

Braid of advisory focus areas:

  • Cyber and information security
  • Regulatory and grants landscapes
  • Organizational strategy

Braid of expertise:

  • Formal education in political science
  • Formal certifications in cybersecurity
  • Ability to translate regulatory “legalese” into actionable cybersecurity strategy
  • Over a decade in electoral politics (bringing an ability to anticipate regulatory trends)
  • Many years in local, state, and federal government environments
  • Backgrounds in higher education and nonprofits

Braid of upcoming newsletter content:

  • Discussion of current events relating to cybersecurity and regulatory landscapes
  • Emphasis on federal grants landscapes and other highly regulated ecosystems
  • Connections to national security, geopolitics, and electoral politics
  • Relevant personal touches with insights into my life and vantage point
